Sicilian Cassata

Cassata is a typical Italian dessert, originally from Sicily, now renowned and beloved in all of Italy. It is made with ricotta, sponge cake, almond paste and beautifully decorated with sugar glaze and candied fruit. Rich and colourful, Cassata was traditionally associated with Easter, whereas now it can be enjoyed all year round! This delicacy has evolved together with the history of Sicily: it all started with a simple shortcrust pastry filled with ricotta that resulted in the rich and flavourful dessert we all know and love, only thanks to Arab, Norman, and Spanish influences. The Arabs added sugar cane, lemon and citron, the Normans enriched it with almond paste, while the sponge cake was a Spanish contribution. The recipe was finally completed during the Baroque era, with the addition of candied fruits.

Our new Cassata gelato will deliver the true taste of Italy. The abundance and creaminess of the fresh cheese perfectly intertwine with the candied fruit's subtle gourmet notes. We use orange peels, lemon peels, citron peels, and cherries that are sourced from sun-drenched orchards and then candied strictly following the Sicilian tradition. This gelato also contains Maraschino Liqueur. This flavour goes particularly well with our Mango Alphonso sorbet, or our Mawardi Pistacchio gelato.● No artificial colouring● No artificial flavouring● No flavour enhancers
